Xavier Prats Monné



Xavier Prats Monné is Director for Employment Policy, Lisbon Strategy and International Affairs at the European Commission's Directorate General for Employment, Social Policy and Equal Opportunities.

He is also member of the European Commission's Impact Assessment Board. He was previously Director for European Social Fund (ESF) coordination, and was responsible for the establishment and negotiation of the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund. As Country Director for the ESF, he was responsible for the programming and implementation of the ESF, for the analysis of national employment and social inclusion policies, and for the preparation of EU enlargement to Bulgaria and Croatia.

He previously worked in the Cabinets of Commission Vice President Manuel Marin and of Commissioner Michel Barnier, in the Directorate General for Development cooperation, and in the General Secretariat of the European Commission.

Xavier Prats Monné holds degrees in Social Sciences from the University of Madrid, in Development Economics from the Centre International des Hautes Etudes Agronomiques Mediteranneennes (International Centre for Advanced Méditérranéan Agronomic Studies), and in European Public Administration from the College of Europe, Bruges, where he graduated first in the Class of 1982 and subsequently worked as assistant professor. He is fluent in English, Spanish, French, Italian, and Catalan.
